Over the next few months, there will be sweeping changes for ice manufacturers to improve energy efficiency per the Department of Energy (DOE). As of January 28th, the DOE is now requiring ice machines to become 10-15% more efficient to hold ENERGY STAR ratings. Manitowoc Ice is going to exceed DOE by an additional 10-15% with the new NXT generation ice machine: Indigo NXT. This project began back in April 2015 and is the largest multi-platform project ever taken on by Manitowoc Ice. The notable changes to the Indigo NXT are both controls and refrigeration as well as the shape of the ice cube – see below for changes in greater detail.
